Butter Chicken Recipe – also known as chicken Makhani which is one of the most popular lip-smacking, rich, creamy and delicious Dish.

It’s been loved by many across the universe. Which is paired with roti, naan or Kulcha is delight food, which is most Indians love during their restaurant visits.

There are many other variations of Indian Butter Chicken Recipe or Chicken Makhani recipe, which can be found on the internet and are different from the authentic dish.

How to make Indian Butter Chicken Recipe:

Ingredients For Butter Chicken Recipe:

Butter Chicken Masala

For Marination:

  • Boneless Chicken – 1/2 kg
  • Lemon juice – 3/4 tablespoon
  • Salt as necessary
  • Red chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Second Marination:

  • Kasuri Methi – 3/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1/8 teaspoon
  • Garam Masala powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil – 3/4 tablespoon
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
  • Yoghurt – 1/2 cup

For Gravy:

 Butter Chicken
  • Butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon – 1 stick
  • Green Cardamom – 2 nos
  • Cloves – 2 nos
  • Slit green chillies – 2 nos
  • Tomato puree – 400 gms
  • Cashew nuts – 17 nos
  • Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Kasuri methi – 1/2 tablespoon
  • Sugar – 1/4 tablespoon
  • Salt as necessary
  • Fresh cream – 100 ml
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons

How to make Butter Chicken Recipe:

Marinating:

  • To marinate the chicken, wash chicken and drain it completely, make sure there is no excess water. Marinating the chicken helps to make it soft, tasty and juicy.
  • Add lemon juice, chilli powder and salt mix everything well and set this aside for 15 to 20 mins.
  • Now, let’s start with the second marination. Add fresh yoghurt, ginger garlic paste, crushed Kasuri methi, oil, turmeric powder and garam masala.
Butter Chicken
  • Mix everything well, marinate and refrigerate for 12 hours or overnight. The longer its marinated that softer chicken becomes, just melts in the mouth.
  • Start Grilling the chicken in the oven or on the stovetop. Preheat the oven to 240c for 15 mins to grill in the oven.
  • Skew the marinated chicken on to soaked wood skewers or place on a greased tray and grill for 20 to 30 mins.
  • If grilling the marinated chicken in the pan, add a teaspoon of butter and grill it on a high flame. Continuously stir it to avoid burning.
  • Cook the chicken until just done and all the moisture evaporates and set it aside.

How to make Butter Chicken Recipe:

  • Heat butter in a pan and add Cinnamon, clove and cardamom. Sauté them for a min.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, green chillies and fry I for a couple of mins until the raw smell goes off.
  • Pour the tomato puree, and add red chilly powder, sugar and salt.
  • Mix and cook everything well until the tomato puree becomes thick and leaves the pan.
  • Now pour a cup of water along with the cashew paste and let it come to boil and simmer for 5 mins.
  • Add chicken and simmer for about 5 mins to become tender, and it varies depending on how tender your meat is.
  • Check the seasoning and adjust if required.

  • Now add garam masala, crushed Kasuri methi and fresh cream, mix everything well and turn off the flame.
  • Do not cook longer after adding cream to prevent the cream from curdling.
  • Shift it to a serving bowl and garnish it with fresh cream and finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • It is best served with jeera rice, plain basmati rice, roti, naan or paratha.
